There’s a sucker born every minute…

demag.jpg

…and I hope it’s not you. The Furutech Demag is a device that claims to demagnitize your CD’s and DVD’s to improve video and audio quality. Unfortunately, CD’s and DVD’s work on an optical principal, and is not affected by magnetic fields. Listed at $2900, there’s going to be a few stupid video and audiophiles that preach the wonders of this device. Suckers.

New York City bans the N-bomb

NY City banned the use of the word nigger on Wednesday, sparking debate from entertainers who use the word in their works; from music to comedy acts. Supporters of this ban are pushing for the Recording Academy to not nominate artists for Grammy awards if the word is used in lyrics. Chris Rock sums it up best in a Reuters interview… “What, is there a fine? Am I going to get a ticket? Do judges say, ‘10 years, nigger!’”

Is this another law that allows government to dictate control of whats socially acceptable? Personally, I’m tired of these types of laws that gives the government too much control over our freedoms. If all it takes is a movement of supporters to push a social preference into law, this will set a precident for other groups to push their agenda on the unsuspecting public. What ever happened to freedoms, or the land of the free? Just because your group finds something to be acceptable, it doesn’t give you the right to force that view upon others, who may actually disagree with you. What’s next? Force Christianity on everyone???

F1: Ferrari pulls ahead of the competition

Ferrari F1

Ferrari pulled clearly ahead of the competition on the final day of testing, being the only team to break the 1m30s barrier at Bahrain. The F2007 was fitted with Melbourne spec bodywork and it was clear that the Ferrari was in a class of it’s own.

“At the moment I think we are ahead of McLaren and BMW,” says Massa, “It is difficult to know, you can never say that there will not be surprises, but that is my feeling.”

Competitors also shared the same views as the Maranello squad. Team McLaren, who was tipped to be a favorite for the opening race until the final day of testing, agree with Ferrari’s claims. They feel that Ferrari’s long time partnership with Bridgestone has helped them understand the new tires much better than other teams, as many of the teams are just getting the first taste of Bridgestone tires this winter after the withdrawl of Michellin.

“There were some tests at which they did not look so great,” says Fernado Alonso, 2 time world champion and lead driver for Team McLaren. “Now their experience with Bridgestone has put them ahead of us. The reality is that they are very strong and in the first half of the season they will have the advantage. We are going to have to be defensive in the first races and then attack when we know that we can recover what we have lost… We are still learning about these tyres. Everybody wants to be the best at the first race, but this car is what we have and it is a good basis.”

As for which Ferrari driver will take the win at the season opener, the competition believes that Massa will be faster, even though Raikkonen was tipped as an early favorite. “Everybody thought Kimi was simply going to replace Michael (Schumacher)’s speed,” Alonso explained, “but the truth is that Felipe is going very quickly and is very determined.”

NES (Famicom) Guitar

JDM NES Guitar

You have to be a pretty hardcore Nintendo fan to appreciate this one. The Nintendo Famicom, better known as the Nintendo Entertainment System on this side of the Pacific, was revolutionary in transforming the home video game market. So much so that it inspired this luthier to build a working guitar out of it. Templates were used to make the final product look like the original. The coolest part is that both controllers are used, one in the holder on the body, and the other as the headstock.
